Quick Start Guide
Get up and running with DevClocked in under 5 minutes. Connect GitHub, install extensions, and start tracking.
Welcome to DevClocked! This guide will help you set up your account, connect your repositories, and start tracking your coding time automatically.
1. Create Your Account
Sign up using your email or GitHub account. If you sign up with GitHub, we'll automatically fetch your public profile details.
2. Connect GitHub
To track your commits, you'll need to connect your GitHub account. DevClocked uses the DevClocked GitHub App with a browser-based authorization flow — no Personal Access Token to generate or paste.
- Go to Settings > Integrations
- Click "Connect GitHub" and complete GitHub's authorization in the browser
- Install the DevClocked GitHub App on the account (or org) that owns the repos you want to track, granting access to the repositories you choose
- DevClocked confirms your installation and loads the repos you just granted access to
Sync credentials refresh server-side, so the connection recovers cleanly when your GitHub access changes. Older Personal Access Token (PAT) connections still work read-only, but reconnect once to move onto refreshable GitHub App credentials.
3. Select Repositories
Once connected, you'll see a list of your repositories. Toggle the switch next to the repos you want to track. DevClocked will immediately start analyzing your commit history to generate your initial stats.
4. Install Extensions (Optional but Recommended)
For even more precise tracking, install our VS Code or Chrome extensions. These track your editor activity and browsing time on developer sites, giving you a complete picture of your workday.
